Kahoot! offers
a student response system which is accessible by anyone with a web-browsing
device. There have been many studies to
evaluate the effectiveness of student response systems (SRS), but none that was
conducted specifically on Kahoot! In their article Promoting Interactive
Learning with an Electronic Student Response System (NACTA Journal, 2005),
Bazen & Clark note the positive impacts that utilizing a SRS can have on
students. Allowing all students to actively
participate and receiving immediate feedback for the both instructor as well as
the student are mentioned as true advantages.
They also note several other benefits of using student response systems
during instruction.
Porter & Tousman (Evaluating the Effect of Interactive Audience Response Systems on the Perceived Learning Experience of Nursing Students) conducted a survey of 26 nursing students on how they felt about utilizing a student response system during classroom sessions. While the sampling size of the study was small, the written comments from the students indicated that that they had a “better understanding of the material via post-question discussion. . . and led to paying more attention in class”. These findings help support the use of student response systems during instruction.
